Welcome to pdfbookmarks.xyz ("the site", "we"). By creating an account or using the site, you confirm that you have read and agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. The service

The site helps you recognize the table of contents of scanned PDFs, edit it, and generate PDFs with clickable bookmarks. It also offers a public library of outlines compiled by users that you can use directly. Features, prices and free allowances are as described on the site and may change.

2. Your account

• Sign up with an email address you can receive mail at, and keep your password safe. Actions taken with your account are treated as yours.
• Do not create multiple accounts, fake devices or use similar tricks to claim free trials repeatedly or get around usage limits.
• You can delete your account at any time in "Account settings".

3. Your files

• Only process PDF files you have the right to use. You are responsible for any copyright or other legal issues arising from the files you process.
• We claim no rights in your PDF files. Files are processed mainly in your browser; anything uploaded to our server is handled and deleted as described in the Privacy Policy.

4. Content you share to the library

• Outlines you choose to share, corrections, proposed titles, ratings, and the cover thumbnail uploaded with them ("contributions") are public and can be viewed and used by other users.
• You confirm that you have the right to provide your contributions and that they do not infringe anyone's rights or contain unlawful material.
• You grant the site and its other users a free, non-exclusive, irrevocable, worldwide licence to store, display, modify and combine your contributions, and use them to generate bookmarked PDFs, within the site's service. Contributions remain after you delete your account but are no longer linked to it.
• We may organize, merge, hide or remove contributions (for example, correcting inaccurate titles or hiding poor-quality or infringing outlines).

5. Points

• Points can only be used on the site (for example to use someone else's outline from the library or to re-scan an outline). They cannot be cashed out or transferred and are not stored value or currency.
• You may earn reward points when others use your outlines, corrections or titles; reward points can likewise only be used on the site. The sharing rules are described on the "Points" page and may change.
• New users get a free trial as described on the site.
• Points you have purchased are generally non-refundable. If we are unable to provide the service for an extended period for reasons on our side, contact us for a refund of unused points. Where the law provides otherwise, the law applies.
• We may remove points obtained through cheating, rating manipulation, exploiting bugs or similar means.

6. Prohibited conduct

• Uploading or distributing unlawful, infringing or malicious content;
• Attacking or disrupting the site, or scraping library content in bulk with automated tools without permission;
• Manipulating ratings or usage counts, or submitting junk edits to outlines to collect rewards;
• Impersonating others or otherwise getting around the site's limits and charges.

7. Recognition results

Outline recognition (AI and on-device) and outlines from the library may contain errors or omissions. Please check and correct them before generating. If bookmarks jump to the wrong page, use "Wrong jump targets?" to adjust.

8. Changes to and interruptions of the service

We do our best to keep the site running, but we may suspend or adjust the service for maintenance, upgrades, provider outages or other reasons, and may change or discontinue features. Significant changes will be announced on the site in advance; if we shut down the whole service, we will give you time to export your outlines and deal with remaining points.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The site is provided "as is", without any guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for your particular needs. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses arising from using or being unable to use the site, and our total liability is limited to the amount you actually paid on the site in the previous 12 months.

10. Suspension and termination

If you breach these terms, we may, depending on the circumstances, remove the content concerned, deduct improperly obtained points, or suspend or terminate your account.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms and will change the date at the top when we do; significant changes will be announced on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Disputes

Any dispute arising from these terms or the service should first be resolved through friendly negotiation; failing that, it will be handled under the applicable law.
